What's wrong?
The fuel pump on 2011-2014 BMW motorcycles moves gasoline from the tank to the engine at the pressure the injection system needs. On certain models, an auxiliary fuel pump is part of the same fuel delivery path. The pump flange is the mounting area where the quick connector attaches, so it has to hold a tight seal while the motorcycle is running.
On affected motorcycles, the supplier installed a support ring on that fuel pump flange with a pneumatic fastening tool. That process introduced unwanted tolerance at the quick connector area. Over time, stress at that spot can let cracks grow through the flange. Once the flange cracks, fuel can leak from the pump during vehicle operation.
The warning sign is fuel odor. If you smell gasoline around the motorcycle, especially while riding or after stopping, treat it as a sign that the fuel pump area needs inspection.
