What's wrong?
The steering gear on 2020-2021 Spartan K2, K3, and K4 motorhome chassis is the heavy steering component that turns driver input into movement at the front wheels. Its mounting fasteners hold that gear tight to the front suspension structure, so the steering gear stays aligned while the vehicle is driven.
On affected chassis, the bracket coating supplied with the independent front suspension did not cure correctly beneath the outer surface. That left too little clamping force at the steering gear mount. As the chassis is driven, the fasteners loosen, back out, and create movement where the steering gear is supposed to stay fixed. A loose fastener also interferes with nearby steering parts, including the pitman arm.
The driver can notice increased steering effort when trying to hold the motorhome straight. In other cases, the fasteners loosen without a warning sign before failure.
Who's affected?

What's the safety risk?
Steering gear mounting fasteners that interfere with other steering components can make the vehicle harder to steer and increase the risk of a crash. Fasteners can loosen without warning, although heavier steering while holding the vehicle straight is a warning sign. Schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Spartan dealer.
