2019 Autocar Xpeditor Recall 20V496: PTO Stall Risk

Recall 20V496 affects 78 2019 Autocar Xpeditor vehicles for PTO-related stalling or hesitation. Repair will be free at any franchised Autocar dealer once available.

Autocar is recalling 78 2019 Xpeditor vehicles up-fitted with an aftermarket power take off system because they can stall or hesitate from the right side stand up position when PTO is engaged. That loss of movement can let the vehicle drift backwards, increasing crash, injury, or property-damage risk; the Autocar dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?

The aftermarket power take off, or PTO, on the 2019 Autocar Xpeditor is equipment that lets the truck's engine run added hydraulic functions while the vehicle is working. With the PTO engaged, engine power is shared between moving the truck and powering that hydraulic system.

On affected Xpeditor trucks, the hydraulic function uses a large share of the available engine torque at idle. When the driver launches the truck from the right side stand up position with the PTO engaged, the truck can stall or hesitate instead of accelerating normally. That position also makes brake modulation harder, so the driver has less fine control while trying to move the vehicle.

There is no warning sign before failure. The issue appears when the truck is operated from that right side stand up position with the PTO engaged, so tell the Autocar dealer exactly when the stall or hesitation happens.

What's the safety risk?

A stall or hesitation can let the Xpeditor drift backward, increasing the risk of a crash, injury, or property damage. There is no warning sign before this happens, so use extra care when starting on an incline and ask the dealer for current repair timing. Repair will be free at any franchised Autocar dealer once available.
