2020-2021 Keystone Impact/Fuzion Recall 20V428: Wiring

Recall 20V428 affects 594 2020-2021 Keystone Impact and Fuzion trailers for reversed generator transfer-switch wiring. Repair is free at any franchised Keystone dealer.

Keystone is recalling 594 2020-2021 Impact and Fuzion toy hauler travel trailers because the generator transfer switch can be wired with shore-cord and power-center connections reversed. That defect lets generator power energize the shore power connection, raising injury risk, and Keystone dealers will correct the wiring free of charge.

What's wrong?

The generator transfer switch in a 2020-2021 Keystone Fuzion or Impact toy hauler travel trailer routes electrical power between the shore cord and the trailer's power center. In normal operation, it keeps generator power and campground shore power on the correct sides of the system so the outlets and appliances receive power without backfeeding the shore connection.

On affected trailers, the shore cord wiring and power center wiring were reversed at the transfer switch. That backwards connection lets generator power energize the shore power connection instead of feeding the trailer the way it should. Keystone traced the defect to the line and load wiring being installed in the wrong positions, then inspected held Fuzion and Impact units and retrained production checks.

The warning sign is clear: when the generator starts, there is no 120VAC power inside the recreational vehicle. If the generator is running and the trailer has no power, do not use the generator until an authorized Keystone service center has serviced the trailer.

Who's affected?

Covers both Impact and Fuzion trailers from the 2020 and 2021 model years, with wiring listed as the shared component.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

A miswired generator can energize the shore power connection and create an injury risk. If the generator is running and there is no power inside the recreational vehicle, stop using the generator until an authorized Keystone service center checks it. Repair is free at any franchised Keystone dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2020-2021 Keystone Impact or Fuzion is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Keystone dealer to schedule the free generator-transfer-switch wiring inspection and correction that prevents generator power from energizing the shore power connection.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Keystone mailed one. Reference recall number 20V428 when you call.
  4. Stop using the generator if there is no power inside the trailer while it is running; keep the generator off until the recall repair is complete.
  5. Avoid touching the shore power connection while the generator is running until the dealer confirms the wiring is corrected.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Keystone technician runs the generator and checks that it is producing the proper power output. If the generator transfer switch wiring is reversed, the technician corrects the Line and Load wiring so generator power does not energize the shore power connection. The recall repair is free. If there is no power inside the unit while the generator is running, stop using the generator until the repair is complete. Keystone has a manufacturer reimbursement plan on file for owners who already paid for a related repair. Ask Keystone customer service how to submit prior repair documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 20V428?

Recall 20V428 covers 594 2020-2021 Keystone Impact and Fuzion toy hauler travel trailers with a generator transfer switch wiring error. The reversed line and load wiring can energize the shore power connection, raising injury risk. Keystone dealers will inspect generator output and correct the wiring for free.

What should I do if my 2020-2021 Keystone Impact or Fuzion is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific trailer is included in recall 20V428. If it is, contact a franchised Keystone dealer to schedule the generator transfer switch inspection. Reference Keystone recall 20-382 when you call. The dealer repair is free.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Keystone dealers will run the generator, check for proper power output, and correct the transfer switch wiring as needed free of charge.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is injury from a shore power connection that becomes energized by generator power. That condition can happen when the transfer switch line and load wiring are reversed. Until a Keystone dealer completes the inspection, avoid using the generator if power is not present inside the trailer while it is running.

What warning signs should I watch for?

Watch for no power inside the trailer while the generator is running. Keystone instructed owners to discontinue generator use in that situation until the recall remedy is performed. Call Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369 or a franchised Keystone dealer for repair scheduling.
