Recall 20V332 affects 292,311 2014-2017 Ford F-150 trucks for a brake master cylinder leak. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
Ford is recalling 292,311 2014-2017 F-150 pickups with 3.5L Ecoboost engines because the brake master cylinder can leak brake fluid into the brake booster. Fluid loss can change pedal travel and feel, increase pedal effort, reduce front brake function, and raise crash risk; Ford dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The brake master cylinder in 2014-2017 Ford F-150 pickup trucks with 3.5L Ecoboost engines converts brake pedal force into hydraulic pressure. It sends brake fluid through the brake lines so the brakes apply when you press the pedal. The brake booster helps reduce the effort needed at the pedal.
On affected trucks, brake fluid can leak past the rear cup seal in the master cylinder and enter the brake booster. Ford traced the leak to brake fluid contamination that interferes with the rear cup seal, and in fewer cases to rolling of the rearmost cup seal inside the master cylinder. Once that seal stops holding fluid where it belongs, the reservoir level drops and the brake system needs service.
If enough brake fluid is lost, the driver gets an audible chime, a message center alert, and a red brake warning indicator in the instrument cluster. Treat those warnings as a brake-service warning sign, not a routine reminder.
Who's affected?
The master-cylinder and power-assist brake categories point to the same brake master cylinder issue in the hydraulic brake system.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup is included.
What's the safety risk?
Brake fluid loss can change pedal travel and feel, raise pedal effort, reduce front brake function, and require more distance to stop. If you hear the chime, see a message center alert, or see a red brake warning light, treat it as a brake system service warning and call the dealer before continuing. Repair is free at any franchised Ford dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2014-2017 Ford F-150 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free brake master cylinder replacement and brake booster inspection for the brake-fluid leak.
- Bring the recall notice if Ford mailed one. If not, reference recall number 20V332 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra stopping distance and avoid hard braking.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ford technician replaces the brake master cylinder, then inspects the brake booster and replaces the booster when the inspection shows it is needed. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Ford's general reimbursement plan covers eligible repairs paid by owners before recall notification, with eligibility ending July 17, 2020. If you already paid for a related brake master cylinder or brake booster repair, bring documentation and ask the service desk how to submit it under Ford's plan.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 20V332?
Recall 20V332 covers 292,311 2014-2017 Ford F-150 pickups with 3.5L Ecoboost engines. The brake master cylinder can leak brake fluid into the brake booster, changing brake pedal feel and reducing front brake function. Ford dealers replace the brake master cylinder and inspect the brake booster for free.
What should I do if my 2014-2017 Ford F-150 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 20V332. If it is, contact a franchised Ford dealer to schedule the free brake master cylinder replacement and brake booster inspection. Reference Ford recall number 20S31 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires Ford to repair the defect at no cost. A franchised Ford dealer will replace the brake master cylinder and inspect the brake booster, replacing it as needed, free of charge.
Is it safe to drive my Ford F-150 before the repair?
The filing does not include a do-not-drive order, but the brake issue is serious. Brake fluid loss can change pedal travel and feel, raise pedal effort, and reduce front brake function. Check your VIN, then schedule the free repair if your truck is included.
What if I bought my Ford F-150 used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law covers the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific F-150 is included, then call a franchised Ford dealer and reference recall 20V332 or Ford recall number 20S31.
