What's wrong?
The ATF oil pipe on the 2020 Cayenne carries automatic transmission fluid between the transmission and the ATF oil cooler that sits on the transmission housing. The pipe has a flange welded to it through a friction-welding process, where heat and pressure fuse the two pieces into a single sealed connection. That weld has to hold under pressure and heat for the life of the transmission.
On affected Cayennes, a sub-supplier used uncertified material for the flange. During friction welding, the flange and the pipe fused on the surface, but the wrong material kept a permanent bond from forming. Over time, the joint can separate and let transmission fluid escape. A low fluid level can cause the transmission to slip, overheat, or stop transferring power to the wheels.
The earliest warning sign is usually oil marks on the ground under the vehicle after it has been parked. A Transmission Malfunction warning light on the dash is the other signal that fluid has been lost.

What's the safety risk?
A transmission fluid leak can leave slick oil on the road and raise the risk of a crash for you and drivers behind you. Watch for oil spots under the vehicle or a Transmission Malfunction warning light, and treat either sign as a reason to stop driving and call the dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Porsche dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2020 Porsche Cayenne is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Porsche dealer to schedule the transmission-oil-pipe inspection and replacement that stops the automatic transmission fluid leak.
- Reference recall number 20V271 (Porsche recall ALA5) when you call the dealer or Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
- Bring the owner notice with you to the appointment if Porsche has mailed one.
- Watch for fluid spots under the vehicle and avoid hard acceleration or sudden stops until the repair is complete, since leaked transmission fluid can make the road surface slippery.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Porsche technician inspects the transmission oil pipe for the insufficient weld and replaces the pipe if needed. Parts and labor are free under the recall. If you have already paid out of pocket for a transmission oil pipe repair or related ATF leak work, Porsche's standard reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Bring your receipts and any related paperwork to the service desk when you arrive, and ask the advisor to file the claim under recall ALA5.
