What's wrong?
The front brake hose on the 2019 Yamaha YZFR3 is a flexible line that carries brake fluid to the front brake caliper. When you squeeze the front brake lever, pressure moves through that hose and helps clamp the brake pads against the rotor. The hose has to move with the handlebars without rubbing nearby wiring.
On affected motorcycles, the front brake hose contacts the horn lead wire as the handlebars turn from left to right. That contact wears the outside of the hose. If the wear goes far enough, brake fluid leaks from the damaged hose and front brake feel becomes spongy. Yamaha changed the routing of the horn wire harness and front brake hose so the wire runs in front of the hose instead of rubbing it.
Owners can look for visible chafing on the front brake line. A spongy front brake feel is another warning sign before the hose is breached.

What's the safety risk?
A brake fluid leak reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash. Watch for a chafed front brake line or a spongy front brake feel, and schedule the inspection soon if your VIN is included. Repair is free at any franchised Yamaha dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2019 Yamaha YZFR3 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Yamaha dealer to schedule the free front-brake-hose inspection, hose replacement if needed, and horn-lead-wire reroute that addresses chafing between the parts.
- Bring the recall notice if Yamaha mailed one. If not, reference recall number 20V071 and Yamaha recall 990135 when you call.
- Ride cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra following distance and stop if you see brake fluid near the front brake hose.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Yamaha technician inspects the front brake hose for chafing where it can contact the horn lead wire during handlebar movement. If the hose is damaged or at risk, the technician replaces it. The technician also reroutes the horn lead wire so it no longer rubs against the brake hose. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor.

A brake fluid leak can reduce braking ability and increase crash risk. Yamaha dealers inspect the hose, replace it if needed, and reroute the wire for free.
What should I do if my 2019 Yamaha YZFR3 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific motorcycle is included in recall 20V071. If it is, contact a franchised Yamaha dealer to schedule the front brake hose inspection and horn lead wire rerouting. Reference Yamaha recall number 990135 when you call. The repair is free.

No. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to perform recall repairs at no cost. Yamaha dealers will inspect the front brake hose, replace it if needed, and reroute the horn lead wire for free.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is reduced braking ability from a brake fluid leak. On affected Yamaha YZFR3 motorcycles, the front brake hose can chafe against the horn lead wire during handlebar movement. If fluid leaks from the hose, stopping performance is reduced and crash risk increases.
What if I bought my Yamaha YZFR3 used?
The free repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the motorcycle, not the original owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific 2019 Yamaha YZFR3 is included, then call a franchised Yamaha dealer and reference recall 20V071 or Yamaha recall number 990135.
