What's wrong?
The front seat belt webbing is the strap that crosses the occupant and feeds into a retractor. In the affected trucks, that retractor includes a belt webbing lock, a small internal mechanism that is supposed to stop the strap from paying out when the belt needs to hold an occupant in place.
The issue is inside the retractor. A supplier inserted the Pawl Spring at the wrong angle, and with use, that spring can move through an opening in the lock gear and touch the flywheel, one of the parts that helps the webbing lock work. If the flywheel is blocked, the webbing lock stops operating as designed, so the seat belt does not properly restrain the occupant.
