2019 Ram 1500 Recall 19V887: Tire Pressure Sensor Defect

What's wrong?

The tire pressure monitoring system on a 2019 Ram 1500 uses sensors inside the wheels to read tire air pressure and send that information to the truck. When pressure drops too low, the system is supposed to turn on the low tire pressure warning indicator so the driver knows to check the tire before continuing.

On affected trucks, Ram identified an incorrect TPMS sensor installed during production. The wrong sensor contains a small control circuit that does not match this TPMS. During a 20 minute drive, the system will show a malfunction indicator instead of being able to display the low tire pressure warning required for normal operation. The remedy sensor uses the proper circuit built into the sensor.

The warning sign is the TPMS malfunction indicator lamp. If that lamp turns on, the system has identified a malfunction, and the low tire pressure warning is not working as intended.

What's the safety risk?

If tire pressure drops and the warning indicator does not alert you, you can keep driving on an underinflated tire without realizing it. That raises the risk of a crash. Watch for any tire-pressure or malfunction light, check tire pressure with a gauge if handling feels off, and schedule the TPMS sensor replacement. Repair is free at any franchised Ram dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2019 Ram 1500 is included in this recall.
  2. Contact your nearest franchised Ram dealer to schedule the free TPMS sensor replacement that restores the low tire pressure warning indicator.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Ram sent one. Reference recall number 19V887 when you call.
  4. Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Check tire pressure manually and do not rely only on the warning light.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Ram technician replaces the TPMS sensor covered by this recall so the low tire pressure warning indicator can display correctly. The replacement parts and labor are free under the recall. If you already paid for a repair tied to this TPMS sensor problem, FCA US says owners can send the original receipt or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense. Ask the Ram service desk how to include that paperwork with your recall file.
