Recall 19V866 covers 2,167 2013-2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid vehicles for transmission oil pressure loss. Repair will be free at a franchised Volkswagen dealer once available.
Volkswagen is recalling 2,167 2013-2015 Jetta Hybrid vehicles under recall 19V866 because hairline cracks can form inside the transmission mechatronic unit, causing an internal oil leak and lower oil pressure. That pressure loss can keep the clutch from engaging, cause sudden loss of drive power, and increase crash risk; the Volkswagen dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The 2013-2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid uses a DQ200 7-Speed DSG automatic transmission. Inside that transmission, the mechatronic unit is the electronic and hydraulic control unit that manages gear changes and clutch operation. It sends pressure through internal passages so the transmission can select and hold the right gear.
On affected vehicles, the accumulator housing inside the mechatronic unit has reduced wall thickness because of a machining problem tied to poor reference drills from a sub-supplier. Hairline cracks can form in that housing. When that happens, transmission oil leaks inside the unit, oil pressure drops, and the transmission can fail to shift as commanded. If the driver keeps going after the warning light, the vehicle can become disabled.
The warning sign is an instrument-panel warning light caused by reduced oil pressure. Treat that light as a repair warning, since the system is already losing the pressure it needs.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether this recall applies to your specific sedan.
What's the safety risk?
Reduced transmission oil pressure can keep the clutch from engaging, which can cause a sudden loss of drive power and increase crash risk. A warning light on the instrument panel is the sign to stop using the vehicle and contact a Volkswagen dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Volkswagen dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2013-2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Volkswagen dealer and ask whether the free repair kit is open for your VIN.
- Reference recall number 19V866 when you call, and use Volkswagen recall 34J6 if the dealer asks for the manufacturer number.
- Ask for the repair kit that addresses the mechatronic-unit oil leak and loss of transmission oil pressure.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Sudden loss of drive power increases crash risk.
What happens at the repair
Once the final dealer repair is available, a Volkswagen technician will install a repair kit and replace affected transmission parts tied to the mechatronic unit oil leak. Parts and labor will be free under the recall. Volkswagen has mailed owner letters, but this remedy status is still listed as under development, so confirm the repair is open before planning service. Volkswagen offers a reimbursement program for this recall. If you already paid for a related transmission repair, contact Volkswagen customer service and ask how to submit paid repair documentation under that program.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 19V866?
Recall 19V866 covers 2,167 2013-2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid vehicles with a DQ200 7-Speed DSG automatic transmission. Hairline cracks in the mechatronic unit can cause an internal oil leak, lower oil pressure, clutch engagement failure, and sudden loss of drive power.
What should I do if my 2013-2015 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Jetta Hybrid is included in recall 19V866. If it is, call a franchised Volkswagen dealer and reference recall 19V866 or Volkswagen recall 34J6. Ask whether the repair kit is available for your VIN before driving in for service.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost, and Volkswagen says dealers will install a repair kit and replace affected parts as needed free of charge. Parts and labor are covered at any franchised Volkswagen dealer.
Is it safe to drive my Jetta Hybrid before the recall repair?
The recall does not include a do-not-drive order, but the defect can cause sudden loss of drive power. If your VIN is included, ask a Volkswagen dealer for guidance before continuing regular use, especially if you notice transmission slipping, loss of power, or abnormal shifting.
When did Volkswagen notify owners about recall 19V866?
Volkswagen mailed owner notification letters on June 25, 2021. If you bought the vehicle used or never received a letter, the VIN still decides whether the recall applies. Check your VIN, then call Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or a franchised Volkswagen dealer.
