Recall 19V841 covers 12,539 2018-2020 International vehicles for PTO-related unintended movement. Repair will be free at International dealers once available.
International is recalling 12,539 2018-2020 Durastar, Workstar, Hv, and Mv vehicles because engaging the stationary PTO switch with the parking brake set and the transmission in Drive or Reverse can raise engine speed enough to overcome the parking brake. Unintended movement increases crash risk, and the International dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The affected International 2018-2020 Durastar, Workstar, Hv, and Mv trucks use engine speed control for stationary PTO equipment. PTO, or power takeoff, lets the truck raise engine RPM while parked so the engine can power attached equipment. A neutral interlock is supposed to keep that higher engine speed from being commanded while the transmission is in gear.
On trucks with feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU, the powertrain programming was built without the PTO neutral interlock enabled. That means the operator can engage the stationary PTO switch while the parking brake is set and the automatic transmission is in "Drive" or "Reverse." When the engine RPM ramps up in that condition, engine force can overcome the parking brake and the truck can move when it should stay still.
There is no warning sign before failure. The issue is in the calibration, so an owner will not hear, smell, or feel a part wearing out before the truck moves.
Who's affected?
Covers four International truck lines across the 2018, 2019, and 2020 model years, all tied to the engine component.
| 2018 International Durastar | Engine |
|---|---|
| 2018 International Workstar | Engine |
| 2019 International Workstar | Engine |
| 2019 International Durastar | Engine |
| 2019 International Hv | Engine |
| 2019 International Mv | Engine |
| 2020 International Hv | Engine |
| 2020 International Mv | Engine |
| 2020 International Workstar | Engine |
| Units affected | 12,539 |
| Field incidents | NHTSA has logged 1 field incident to date. |
A matching model year and truck line does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
Unintended vehicle movement increases crash risk because the PTO neutral interlock is not enabled. There is no warning sign before movement, so keep the truck secured when parked or serviced and confirm repair status by VIN. Repair will be free at any franchised International dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2018-2020 International Durastar, Workstar, Hv, or Mv is included in this recall.

- Ask a franchised International dealer when the free Engine Control Module software update is available for your VIN.
- Avoid engaging the stationary PTO switch with the transmission in Drive or Reverse until the PTO neutral interlock update is complete.
- Bring the owner notice if International mailed one, or give the dealer recall number 19V841 when you call.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an International technician updates the Engine Control Module software to enable the PTO neutral interlock. The fix is meant to prevent engine RPM from ramping up against the parking brake when the PTO switch is engaged with the transmission in Drive or Reverse. The final dealer repair will be free once available, with parts and labor covered under recall 19V841. Navistar's standard reimbursement plan applies to eligible repairs paid before the owner notice. Reimbursement instructions are included in the customer notification, so keep repair paperwork tied to this condition.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 19V841?
Recall 19V841 covers 12,539 2018-2020 International Durastar, Workstar, Hv, and Mv vehicles equipped with feature codes 12VXT and 12VXU. The stationary PTO setting can raise engine RPM while the transmission is in Drive or Reverse, overpower the parking brake, and cause unintended movement.
What should I do if my 2018-2020 International Durastar, Workstar, Hv, or Mv is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 19V841. If it is, contact a franchised International dealer and ask for the Engine Control Module update that enables the PTO neutral interlock. Reference recall number 19V841 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair the defect at no cost. Navistar says International dealers will update the Engine Control Module to enable the PTO neutral interlock free of charge.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is unintended vehicle movement. With the parking brake applied, the automatic transmission in Drive or Reverse, and the stationary PTO switch engaged, engine RPM can rise enough to overcome the parking brake, increasing crash risk.
What if I bought this International truck used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific Durastar, Workstar, Hv, or Mv is included, then call a franchised International dealer with recall number 19V841.
