Recall 19V761 covers 652,967 2014-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Tahoe vehicles for unintended braking. Free repair at a franchised Chevrolet dealer.
Chevrolet is recalling 652,967 2014-2020 Suburban, Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, and Yukon vehicles with certain four-wheel-drive 5.3-liter powertrains because a wheel-speed sensor failure can trigger unintended braking. The vehicle can pull to one side unexpectedly at 41 to 60 mph, increasing crash risk; Chevrolet dealers will update the brake-control software free of charge.

What's wrong?
The Electronic Brake Control Module, or EBCM, is the computer that reads wheel-speed sensors and helps control ABS and Electronic Stability Control. On these 2014-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Tahoe vehicles, those sensors tell the module how fast each wheel is turning so it can manage braking and stability systems.
The problem is in the EBCM software calibration for vehicles with the 5.3-liter engine, 3.08-ratio rear axle, and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel drive or automatic mode, the EBCM can calculate wheel speed incorrectly. That wrong calculation can trigger the driveline-protection system and cause unintended braking.
Before this happens, the ABS and Electronic Stability Control warning lights will turn on. The driver information center will also show a "Service StabiliTrak" message.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included.
What's the safety risk?
If a wheel-speed sensor fails, the driveline-protection system will brake the wheel on the opposite side, which can make the vehicle pull to one side and increase crash risk. ESC and ABS warning lamps and a "Service StabiliTrak" message are warning signs. Schedule the recall repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2014-2020 Suburban, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Yukon, or Tahoe is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Chevrolet dealer to schedule the free EBCM software update that addresses unintended braking after a wheel-speed sensor failure.
- Bring the recall notice if Chevrolet mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V761 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the software update is complete. Leave extra following distance and keep both hands steady if the vehicle pulls to one side.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Chevrolet technician reprograms the Electronic Brake Control Module software so the driveline protection system works from the corrected calibration. The software update and labor are free under the recall. If you've already paid out of pocket for a related EBCM software or driveline protection repair, GM provides reimbursement according to its submitted plan. Bring repair invoices or receipts to the service desk so the claim can be reviewed.

What is recall 19V761?
Recall 19V761 covers 652,967 2014-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Tahoe vehicles with a wheel-speed-sensor and EBCM software issue. Chevrolet dealers will reprogram the Electronic-Brake Control Module for free.
What should I do if my 2014-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Yukon, or Tahoe is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 19V761. If it is, contact a franchised Chevrolet dealer to schedule the EBCM software reprogramming. Reference recall number 19V761 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. For recall 19V761, a franchised Chevrolet dealer will reprogram the Electronic-Brake Control Module free of charge.
What is the safety risk in recall 19V761?
The safety risk is unexpected braking and a sudden pull to one side. If a wheel-speed sensor fails while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the driveline-protection system can brake the opposite wheel and increase crash risk.
What if I bought this vehicle used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall coverage follows the vehicle, not the original owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included in recall 19V761, then call a franchised Chevrolet dealer and ask for the free EBCM reprogramming.
