Recall 19V741 covers 928,220 2002-2017 Lexus vehicles for front air bag inflators that can explode. Repair is free at any franchised Lexus dealer.
Lexus is recalling 928,220 2002-2017 vehicles, including SC430, GX460, and Corolla models, because driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators replaced in an earlier recall use the same defect-prone design. Long-term propellant degradation can make an inflator explode, sending sharp metal fragments toward occupants; Lexus dealers will replace the inflator free of charge.

What's wrong?
The recalled part is the driver or passenger frontal air bag inflator in certain 2002-2017 Lexus vehicles. The inflator is a sealed metal device inside the air bag module. In a crash that calls for frontal air bag deployment, it produces gas that fills the air bag before the occupant moves forward.
These inflators were installed as replacement parts under an earlier recall, but they used the same Takata design. Inside the inflator, a non-desiccated phase stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant breaks down after long-term exposure to high humidity, high temperatures, and temperature cycling. If the propellant degrades, the inflator can rupture during air bag deployment and send metal fragments through the air bag into the cabin at high speed.
There is no warning sign before failure. The air bag light, steering wheel, and passenger-side dash can look normal until the moment the air bag deploys.
Who's affected?
The scope spans Toyota, Lexus, and Scion nameplates across passenger cars, SUVs, minivans, and pickups, with both driver and passenger front air bag inflator modules listed for each included year and model.

What's the safety risk?
An inflator explosion can send sharp metal fragments into the driver or passengers, causing serious injury or death. If your VIN is included, schedule the airbag recall repair soon and ask the dealer which inflator or airbag part applies to your vehicle. Repair is free at any franchised Lexus dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2002-2017 Lexus SC430, Is 250, Is 350, RAV4, ES350, GX460, Is F, Is 250C, Is 350C, Xb, Sequoia, Tundra, Corolla, Yaris, Corolla Matrix, 4RUNNER, or Sienna is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Lexus dealer to schedule the free frontal air bag inflator repair.
- Ask the dealer whether your vehicle needs the driver inflator, passenger inflator, air bag assembly, or passenger air bag sub-assembly replaced to prevent an inflator explosion.
- Bring the recall notice if Lexus has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V741 when you call.
- Drive with extra care until the repair is complete, and avoid carrying passengers in a seating position with an unrepaired recalled frontal air bag inflator.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Lexus technician replaces the covered airbag part for your specific vehicle: the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, airbag assembly, or front passenger airbag subassembly and inflator. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. If you already paid to have this condition fixed before the campaign, the owner letter directs you to seek reimbursement through Toyota's General Reimbursement Plan. Bring documentation for the paid repair when you talk with the service desk.
