Honda is recalling 4,348 2019 CRF450L motorcycles because the horn mount can break and let the horn detach during a ride. An unsecured horn can affect handling and control or fall into the road, which increases the risk of a crash; Honda dealers will replace the horn mount free of charge.

What's wrong?
The horn stay on the 2019 Honda CRF450L is the metal mounting bracket that holds the horn to the motorcycle. The horn needs that bracket to stay fixed in place so it can work when the rider presses the horn switch. Honda identifies the affected part as stay horn, part number 50155-MKE-A50.
On affected motorcycles, the horn stay was not designed to tolerate resonance from the motor. That vibration loads the bracket over normal riding and can fatigue the metal until the horn mount breaks. Once the mount breaks, the horn can detach from the motorcycle instead of staying secured near its wiring and mounting point.
There is no warning sign before failure. A rider is unlikely to get a clear change in sound, feel, or instrument-panel warning before the horn stay breaks and the horn comes loose.

What's the safety risk?
An unsecured horn can interfere with the motorcycle while riding, affecting handling and control. If it separates, it becomes a road hazard for traffic behind you. Either problem increases the risk of a crash, so ride carefully and schedule the repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Honda dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2019 Honda CRF450L is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Honda dealer to schedule the free horn and horn-mount replacement that keeps the horn secured away from the motorcycle while riding.
- Bring the recall notice if Honda sent one. If not, reference recall number 19V703 when you call.
- Ride only as needed until the repair is complete, and pull over safely if the horn loosens or interferes with handling.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Honda technician replaces the horn and horn mount so the horn stays attached to the motorcycle. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. Honda is not offering a separate reimbursement program for repairs made before owner notification because the new motorcycle limited warranty would have provided the same repair at no charge. Ask the service desk how that warranty coverage applies if you have prior repair paperwork.
