Recall 19V564 affects 1,531 2020 Hino NJ8J, NE8J, and NV8J vehicles because mirror glass can detach. Repair is free at any franchised Hino dealer.

Hino is recalling 1,531 2020 NJ8J, NE8J, and NV8J trucks because improper adhesive bonding can let exterior mirror glass detach from the mirror carrier plate. Detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility and raise crash risk, and Hino dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The exterior mirror glass on 2020 Hino NJ8J, NE8J, and NV8J trucks is the reflective glass mounted in the side mirror housing. It gives the driver a view along the side and rear of the truck, so the glass has to stay fixed to its carrier plate while the truck vibrates and moves.

On affected trucks, the mirror glass was not bonded firmly enough to that carrier plate. The supplier traced the weak bond to an oxygen leak in the plasma treatment process, which lowered the flame temperature before the glass was installed. That surface treatment helps the adhesive grip the carrier plate, so a poor treatment leaves the glass able to separate from the mirror assembly.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner can find the mirror glass loose, missing, or separated only after the bond has already failed.

Who's affected?

The NJ8J, NE8J, and NV8J are grouped together because the same side or rear glass visibility component is involved.

What's the safety risk?

If the mirror glass detaches, the driver's rear visibility is reduced, increasing crash risk. Treat missing or loose mirror glass as a reason to limit driving and schedule the dealer repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Hino dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2020 Hino NJ8J, NE8J, or NV8J is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Hino dealer to schedule the free exterior mirror replacement that fixes the mirror-glass detachment risk.
  3. Bring the recall notice if you have it, and reference recall number 19V564 when you call.
