Recall 19V509 affects 235 2018-2020 Volvo Vah, Vnr, Vhd, and Vnl trucks for a transmission fuse defect. Repair is free at any franchised Volvo dealer.
Volvo is recalling 235 2018-2020 Vah, Vnr, Vhd, and Vnl vehicles because a transmission-circuit fuse can blow and prevent the transmission from shifting. That loss of shifting raises crash risk, and Volvo dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The transmission circuit fuse in the 2018-2020 Volvo Vah, Vnr, Vhd, and Vnl trucks is a small protective link in the electrical system. Its job is to carry power for the transmission control circuit and open the circuit if current gets too high, protecting wiring and related parts.
On affected trucks, the fuse installed in that circuit is not the correct size. Volvo says the circuit should use a 30 amp fuse, but a 5 amp fuse was installed on some trucks because of an incorrect design chart. That lower-rated fuse can blow during normal operation, cutting power to the transmission circuit. When that happens, the transmission can stop shifting as commanded.
There is no warning sign before failure. The truck can seem normal until the fuse opens and the transmission no longer shifts.

What's the safety risk?
A blown fuse can leave the transmission unable to shift and increase the risk of a crash. There is no warning sign before the fuse fails, so schedule the repair soon and be alert for shifting problems. Repair is free at any franchised Volvo dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2018-2020 Volvo Vah, Vnr, Vhd, or Vnl is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Volvo dealer to schedule the free transmission-circuit fuse inspection and replacement that fixes the transmission no-shift condition.
- Bring the recall notice if Volvo has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V509 when you call.
- Limit driving until the repair if the truck is not shifting normally.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Volvo technician inspects the transmission circuit fuse and replaces it if it needs replacement. The recall repair is free, including parts and labor. If you already paid out of pocket for a related fuse or transmission circuit repair before the recall notice, Volvo's general reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Keep your repair paperwork and contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 to ask how to submit the claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 19V509?
Recall 19V509 covers 235 2018-2020 Volvo Vah, Vnr, Vhd, and Vnl trucks with a transmission-circuit fuse that can blow and stop the transmission from shifting. Volvo dealers will inspect the fuse and replace it for free when needed.
What should I do if my 2018-2020 Volvo Vah, Vnr, Vhd, or Vnl is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 19V509. If it is, contact a franchised Volvo dealer to schedule the fuse inspection and replacement. Reference recall number 19V509 or Volvo recall number RVXX1903 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to repair safety defects at no cost, and Volvo dealers will inspect and replace the transmission-circuit fuse free of charge. Parts and labor are covered for included vehicles.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is loss of transmission shifting. If the fuse blows, the transmission can stop shifting, which increases crash risk. Until your VIN is checked, treat the year and model as a starting point only. The VIN decides whether this recall applies.
What if I bought my Volvo truck used?
The free recall repair still applies. Federal recall law follows the vehicle, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific Volvo truck is included, then call a franchised Volvo dealer with recall number 19V509.
