Recall 19V401 affects 22 ambulances built on Ford and Chevrolet chassis with back-up camera monitors that reverse the image. Free repair from ASA Electronics.
VCI Emergency Vehicle Specialists is recalling 22 ambulances built on Ford E-350, E-450, F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 chassis and Chevrolet C4500 chassis under recall 19V401 because the back-up camera monitor can revert to factory settings and reverse the image. A driver who steers the wrong way to avoid an object behind the ambulance raises the risk of a crash, and the final free repair will open once VCI releases it.

What's wrong?
The Voyager monitor in these ambulances is the small dashboard screen that shows the back-up camera image when the driver shifts into reverse. It runs on saved user settings, including the orientation of the image so the view on the screen matches what is actually behind the ambulance. Those saved settings load during the start-up sequence each time the ambulance is powered on.
On affected units, the monitor tries once to load the saved settings during start-up. If that load is interrupted, or if vehicle voltage dips at the wrong moment during power-up, the monitor falls back to the factory default settings. With the defaults loaded, the back-up camera image can appear reversed, so objects on the driver's left show on the right side of the screen and the reverse is true for the other side.
The warning sign is in how the monitor turns on. When the defaults load, the Auto On feature is off, and the screen has to be switched on by hand instead of coming on by itself.
Who's affected?
Covers seven truck and van chassis across nine model years, with one Chevrolet C4500 and the rest Ford E-series and F-series platforms used as upfitter base vehicles.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific vehicle is included in this recall.
What's the safety risk?
A reversed image on the mirror monitor can push the driver to steer the wrong way around an object behind the vehicle, raising the risk of a crash. The display does not flip itself back; the factory default keeps Auto On switched off, so the monitor has to be turned on by hand each time. Drive cautiously, verify the camera view before backing up, and schedule the repair soon. Repair will be free at any franchised Ford dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your Ford or Chevrolet ambulance is included in this recall.
- Wait for the final repair notice, since the remedy is still under development and the Voyager monitor fix is not yet available to schedule.
- Call ASA Electronics at 1-800-384-4400 for status updates on the monitor repair, and reference recall number 19V401 when you call.
- Verify the back-up camera image direction before reversing the ambulance until the monitor is repaired, since the display can revert to factory defaults and show a mirrored image.
What happens at the repair
Until the final dealer repair is available, the recall remedy is still under development. Once VCI and ASA Electronics open the final repair, a technician will correct the Voyager monitor settings on the back-up camera display so the image is no longer reversed. Parts and labor are free under the recall. Owners can contact ASA Electronics at 1-800-384-4400 with questions about the program. If you previously paid out of pocket for a related repair, the manufacturer's standard reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Bring your receipts to the service desk when you arrive.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 19V401?
Recall 19V401 covers 22 ambulances built on 2005-2018 Ford and Chevrolet chassis equipped with ASA Electronics Voyager back-up camera monitors. The monitors can revert to factory default settings and display the camera image reversed, which can cause the driver to steer the wrong way when backing up.
What should I do if my ambulance is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific ambulance is included in recall 19V401. If it is, contact ASA Electronics at 1-800-384-4400 to arrange the free monitor remedy. Reference recall number 19V401 when you call. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to perform the recall repair at no cost. VCI Emergency Vehicle Specialists is working with ASA Electronics to remedy the affected back-up camera monitors free of charge for all included ambulances.
What is the safety risk from the reversed camera image?
When the Voyager monitor reverts to factory defaults, the back-up camera image is shown reversed. A driver relying on that image can turn the wrong direction to avoid an object behind the ambulance, which increases the risk of a crash during backing maneuvers.
What warning signs should I watch for?
Before backing up, confirm the Voyager monitor image matches the actual scene behind the ambulance. If the image is flipped left-to-right, the monitor has reverted to factory defaults. Until the remedy is complete, verify the camera orientation each time the vehicle is started and use mirrors and a spotter.
