Land Rover is recalling 28,671 2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs under recall 19V390 because a spring in the Keyless Vehicle Latching System can stick and leave the left door unlatched after it is closed. An unlatched door can open while the vehicle is moving, raising the risk of injury or a crash, and Land Rover dealers will fix the latch free of charge.

What's wrong?
The Keyless Vehicle Latching System, or KV Latch, is the mechanism that holds each door of the 2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport closed when you push it shut. Inside the latch assembly, a small spring helps the moving parts return to their resting position after the door closes, so the latch grips the door frame and stays locked in place. The system is designed to work the same way every time, whether the door is shut gently or slammed.
On affected vehicles, that spring can jam between the outside transmission lever and the chamfer bush, two internal parts of the latch. When the spring is trapped, the assembly cannot reset to its correct position, so the latch does not fully engage. The left hand door then sits in what looks like a closed state but is not actually latched, and the door can swing open while the vehicle is in motion.
There is no warning sign before failure. The vehicle gives no dashboard alert or chime to indicate that the door is unlatched.
Who's affected?
Covers both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport from the 2016 model year, built in an overlapping window between October 2015 and May 2016.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific SUV is included in this recall.
What's the safety risk?
An unlatched door can swing open while the vehicle is moving, which raises the risk of an occupant falling out or causing a crash. There is no warning light or chime for the unlatched condition, so check that each door is fully closed before driving and treat any door that does not seat firmly as a reason to schedule the recall work without delay. Repair is free at any franchised Land Rover dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Land Rover technician updates the software and inspects the Keyless Vehicle Latching System latches, replacing any that need replacement. Parts and labor are free under the recall. If you previously paid out of pocket to repair this latch defect, the Jaguar Land Rover reimbursement plan covers documented expenses, subject to the plan's usual terms and conditions. Bring your repair receipts and any related paperwork to the service desk when you arrive, and ask the advisor to submit them with your recall claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 19V390?
Recall 19V390 covers 28,671 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles with a Keyless Vehicle Latching System spring that can stick, leaving the left-hand door unlatched after it is closed. Land Rover dealers will update the software and inspect the latches, replacing them if needed, free of charge.
What should I do if my 2016 Land Rover Range Rover or Range Rover Sport is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 19V390. If it is, contact a franchised Land Rover dealer to schedule the software update and latch inspection. Reference recall number 19V390 when you call. The repair is free. Land Rover customer service is 1-800-637-6837.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to fix the defect at no cost to the owner. Land Rover dealers will perform the software update and inspect the Keyless Vehicle Latching System latches, replacing them if needed, free of charge at any franchised Land Rover dealer.
What is the safety risk?
If the latch spring sticks, the left-hand door can stay unlatched after it is closed and then open while the vehicle is in motion. An open door at speed increases the risk of injury to occupants and the risk of a crash. The dealer repair addresses both the software trigger and the latch hardware.
What if I bought my Range Rover used?
The free repair still applies. Federal recall law requires manufacturers to honor the recall regardless of ownership history. If Land Rover never mailed you a notice, check your VIN to confirm whether your specific Range Rover or Range Rover Sport is included, and reference recall number 19V390 when you call the dealer.
