Ic Bus is recalling 4 2017 IC CE and CESB transit buses under recall 19V374 because the driver-side rear brakes can drag. A dragging brake can damage brake components and raise wheel-end temperatures enough to start a fire, and Ic Bus dealers will inspect and repair the brakes free of charge.

What's wrong?
The rear brake calipers on these 2017 IC CE and CESB transit buses are the Bendix ADB 22X air disc units that clamp the brake pads against the rotor each time the driver presses the brake pedal or sets the park brake. Inside each caliper sits a self-adjusting mechanism that keeps a small running clearance between the pad and the rotor as the pads wear down.
On affected buses, the school bus duty cycle puts frequent service and park brake applications through the left rear caliper, producing high clamp loads. Repeated park brake applications cause pad kick, which lets the adjuster mechanism over-tighten itself. The left rear adjuster is more vulnerable because of how its internal threads are oriented. Once the adjuster over-rotates, the running clearance drops to almost nothing and the brake drags against the rotor.
Drivers occasionally see smoke from the left rear wheel or smell hot brakes. In more severe overheating, the ABS warning light comes on after the wheel-speed sensor melts.
Who's affected?
Covers two CE-series school bus variants (CE and CESB) from a narrow two-week build window in November 2016.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included in this recall.
What's the safety risk?
A dragging rear brake can overheat the wheel end, damage brake components, trigger the ABS warning light, and raise the risk of a fire. Watch for smoke from the left rear wheel or an ABS warning light; if either appears, stop the bus safely, move occupants off, and call the dealer before driving further. Repair is free at any franchised Ic Bus dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017 IC Bus CE or CESB transit bus is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised IC Bus dealer to schedule the left rear caliper replacement that fixes the dragging brake.
- Reference recall number 19V374 (Navistar recall 19507) when you call so the service desk pulls the correct repair order.
- Bring the recall notice if Navistar has mailed one to your fleet address.
- Call Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 with questions about parts availability or scheduling.
- Watch for an ABS warning light or unusual heat at the left rear wheel before the repair, and stop the bus safely if either appears.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an IC Bus technician replaces the left rear brake caliper with a redesigned unit that uses an updated adjuster mechanism. Parts and labor are free under the recall. If you previously paid out of pocket to address dragging rear brakes on the affected bus, the manufacturer's standard reimbursement plan applies, and reimbursement instructions are included in the owner notification. Bring your repair receipts and the notification letter to the service desk when you arrive so the dealer can process the claim.
