2017-2018 Eldorado Buses Recall 19V261: Backup Camera

Recall 19V261 affects 296 2017-2018 Eldorado Advantage, Aerotech, and Aero Elite shuttle buses for reversed backup-camera images. Repair is free at any franchised Eldorado dealer.

Eldorado is recalling 296 2017-2018 Advantage, Aerotech, and Aero Elite shuttle buses because the ASA Electronics backup camera display can revert to factory settings and show a reversed image. That wrong-direction view can lead a driver to turn the opposite way, increasing crash risk; Eldorado dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?

The back-up camera display on 2017-2018 Eldorado Advantage, Aerotech, and Aero Elite shuttle buses is the screen a driver uses to see behind the bus while backing. The camera image is supposed to match the driver's view, so objects on the left side of the bus appear on the left side of the display.

The affected ASA Electronics mirror monitor stores user settings during startup. If vehicle voltage drops below 7 volts at the wrong moment while the monitor powers up, the monitor loads factory default settings instead of the saved settings. On earlier monitor revisions, those defaults invert the image, so the display shows a reversed view.

The warning signs appear when the unit powers up. The monitor does not turn on by itself and must be turned on manually. Once on, the volume setting is 50% instead of 0, and the rear camera image is inverted before the driver shifts into Drive.

Who's affected?

Covers three Eldorado bus lines from the 2017-2018 model years, all using the same rear camera system.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.

What's the safety risk?

In NHTSA campaign 19V261, a reversed monitor image can make left and right appear opposite. That confusion can lead the driver to turn the wrong way and increase crash risk. If the monitor is off at startup or the image looks inverted, use extra caution and schedule service soon. Repair is free at any franchised Eldorado dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2018 Eldorado Advantage, Aerotech, or Aero Elite is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Eldorado dealer to schedule the free wiring repair module that keeps the back-up camera image from reversing.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Eldorado mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V261 when you call.
  4. Avoid relying only on the back-up camera until the repair is complete; the recalled display can show the image in reverse.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, an Eldorado technician installs a repair module in the rear camera wiring to keep the camera image from reversing. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Eldorado has a general reimbursement plan on file for documented out-of-pocket repairs tied to this wiring defect. If you've already paid for a related repair, bring prior repair paperwork to the service desk or contact Eldorado customer service before your appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What is recall 19V261?

Recall 19V261 covers 296 2017-2018 Eldorado Advantage, Aerotech, and Aero Elite shuttle buses with ASA Electronics back-up camera displays. The display can revert to factory settings and show the camera image in reverse. Dealers will install a repair module to prevent the image from reversing.

What should I do if my 2017-2018 Eldorado Advantage, Aerotech, or Aero Elite is on this recall?

Check your VIN to confirm your specific bus is included in recall 19V261. If it is, contact an Eldorado dealer or Eldorado customer service at 1-800-955-4236 to schedule the repair module installation. Reference recall number 19V261 when you call.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. For recall 19V261, dealers will install the wiring repair module free of charge so the back-up camera display does not reverse the image.

What is the safety risk?

The safety risk is a reversed camera image during backing. If the display shows the image backward, the driver can turn the opposite direction from what is intended, increasing crash risk. Until the repair is complete, treat a reversed camera image as unreliable and use direct visual checks and mirrors.
