2017-2018 Labrie Automizer/Expert Recall 19V260: CNG Valve

Recall 19V260 affects 14 2017-2018 Labrie Automizer and Expert trucks for CNG tank valve snap-ring failure. Repair is free at any franchised Labrie dealer.

Labrie is recalling 14 2017-2018 Automizer and Expert CNG-powered refuse trucks because the Luxfer valve snap ring can fail if the tank valve knob is turned more than 1 turn. That failure raises injury risk for people nearby and fire risk from the unintended CNG release; Labrie dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The CNG fuel tanks on 2017-2018 Labrie Automizer and Expert refuse trucks store compressed natural gas for the fuel system. Each tank has a shutoff valve, the hand-operated part that opens or closes gas flow so the tank can be isolated during service, inspection, or an emergency.

The problem is in the Luxfer valve on the tank. If someone forces the knob with tools and turns it more than one turn, the valve can be over-torqued. That load can damage the snap ring that holds the valve stem in the valve body. When the snap ring fails, the stem can eject from the valve body.

The warning sign is a knob that is much harder to turn than an undamaged valve. Do not force it with tools or keep turning past normal resistance. The recall repair adds no-tools decals, a knob, and a backup ring and nut to increase the valve's resistance to over-torque damage.

Who's affected?

Covers Automizer and Expert trucks across the 2017 and 2018 model years, with the same fuel system component listed for each model.

Field incidentsNHTSA has logged no field incidents to date.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.

What's the safety risk?

A damaged CNG valve can forcibly eject its stem, injuring people nearby. It can also release compressed natural gas and raise the risk of fire. A valve knob that is much harder to turn than normal is a warning sign; stop using that valve and arrange service. Repair is free at any franchised Labrie dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2018 Labrie Automizer or Expert is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Labrie dealer to schedule the free CNG valve upgrade kit that strengthens the snap ring and helps prevent valve-stem ejection.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Labrie mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V260 when you call.
  4. Avoid turning a CNG tank valve knob more than 1 turn until the upgrade is complete.
  5. Call Labrie customer service at 1-418-813-8250 with questions about the free repair.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Labrie technician installs the Luxfer upgrade kit on the CNG tank valves. The kit strengthens the valve snap ring, the part that helps keep the valve stem retained in the valve body. Parts and labor are free under the recall. Labrie has a general reimbursement plan on file for eligible valve repairs paid before the recall notice. If you already paid for this valve work, ask Labrie customer service or the service desk how to file documentation under that plan.
