2018-2019 Tiffin Phaeton/Bus/Zephyr Recall 19V228: Wiring

Recall 19V228 affects 2,289 2018-2019 Tiffin Phaeton, Bus, and Zephyr motorhomes for unsecured AC wiring. Repair is free at any franchised Tiffin dealer.

Tiffin is recalling 2,289 2018-2019 Phaeton, Bus, and Zephyr motorhomes because alternating current wires in the Energy Management Module were improperly secured, creating added electrical resistance. That resistance can overheat the wires and increase fire risk; Tiffin dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The Energy Management Module in 2018-2019 Tiffin Phaeton, Bus, and Zephyr motorhomes controls alternating-current power inside the coach. The alternating-current wires connect to a relay board inside that module, and the terminal levers are supposed to clamp the bare wire tightly so current flows through a solid connection.

On affected motorhomes, some wire insulation was not stripped back far enough during installation. When the terminal lever was closed, it looked latched, but the clamp was pressing on insulation instead of gripping the bare wire. That leaves the wire loose enough to move in the terminal. A loose electrical connection creates resistance, and resistance creates heat, which led Tiffin to find overheated and charred wiring during its investigation.

There is no warning sign before failure. Do not rely on a light, sound, or display message to tell you the connection is overheating inside the module.

Who's affected?

Spans 3 Tiffin motorhome lines across 2 model years, with the electrical system named for each included model.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific motorhome is included.

What's the safety risk?

Additional resistance in the Alternating Current Relay Board wiring can overheat the wires and increase the risk of a fire. If your VIN is included, have the relay board inspected and the wiring secured before your next trip. Repair is free at any franchised Tiffin dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2018-2019 Tiffin Phaeton, Bus, or Zephyr is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Tiffin dealer to schedule the free Energy Management Module wiring inspection.
  3. Ask the dealer to inspect the Alternating Current Relay Board and secure the wiring so the overheated-wire fire risk is corrected.
  4. Bring the recall notice if Tiffin mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V228 when you call.
  5. Call Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661 with questions before your appointment.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Tiffin technician inspects the alternating current relay board in the Energy Management Module and checks that the electrical wires are properly secured. If the wiring needs attention, the dealer secures it at no charge. The inspection and related labor are free under the recall. Tiffin has a general reimbursement plan on file, so owners who already paid for this related repair should contact Tiffin customer service with repair documentation and ask how to submit a claim.
