What's wrong?
The Carefree Altitude Series awning on the 2019 Jayco Fifth Wheel North Point and Pinnacle trailers uses an electrical circuit to extend and retract the awning. That circuit is protected by a fuse, a small replaceable safety part that opens the circuit when current rises too high. For this awning wiring, the circuit was supposed to use a 5 amp fuse.
On affected trailers, Jayco found a 15 amp fuse on the awning circuit instead. The wiring specification called for 18 gauge wire, and that smaller wire needs lower fuse protection. If awning wiring is pinched by the moving awning parts, the larger fuse can allow too much current through the wire before it opens the circuit. That heat can damage the wiring and lead to a thermal event.
Owners are not told to watch for a specific symptom before the wiring overheats. There is no warning sign before failure.
