What's wrong?
The GO-ES Foldaway seat in the 2018 Diamond Coach Pt 2000 and Mpv/Vtum is built to fold away for access, then lock upright when it is returned for passenger use. Once locked, the seat back and belt anchor points are supposed to hold position under normal seating loads and during a crash or sudden stop.
On affected buses, the seat back frame weldment was built too narrow. That can deform the cushion dump mechanism, which is the latch system that lets the back cushion move and then hold its upright position. When the back cushion is rotated up from the stowed position, the latch can fail to fully engage, allowing the cushion to rotate past its intended position under load.
Owners or operators should hear an audible click when the mechanism locks. The handle should also rotate downward. If the click is missing or the handle does not move down, the seat has not fully locked.
Who's affected?
Both models are tied to the same seat assembly component.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.
What's the safety risk?
A foldaway seat that is not fully locked can let the seat back move in a crash, increasing the occupant's risk of injury. Listen for the mechanism click and check that the handle rotates down into the locked position before use. Schedule the inspection and repair soon. Repair is free at any franchised Diamond Coach dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Diamond Coach technician inspects the Freedman foldaway seat and repairs it so the cushion locks in place when moved from the stowed position to upright. Parts and labor are covered under the recall, so the dealer repair is free. If you already paid for a repair tied to this recall, Freedman reimburses both parts and labor at no cost to the vehicle owner.
