Recall 19V088 covers 18,574 2016-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and Sierra 3500 trucks for fuel tank overfill. Free repair at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.
Chevrolet is recalling 18,574 2016-2018 Silverado 3500 and Sierra 3500 trucks with gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks because the front-tank fuel-level sensor can stick low. That fault can let the rear tank overfill the front tank, push it into contact with the driveshaft, leak fuel, and increase fire risk; Chevrolet dealers will complete the free repair.

What's wrong?
The front fuel-level sensor in affected 2016-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and Sierra 3500 trucks tells the fuel system how much gasoline is in the front tank. These trucks have gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks, so fuel is transferred from the rear tank to the front tank as the system balances supply. The transfer pump depends on an accurate sensor reading.
The problem starts when the front-tank sensor sticks in a low-level position. The pump then keeps moving fuel from the rear tank after the front tank is full. That creates pressure in the front tank, which can make the tank expand until it contacts the moving drive shaft. Replacement fuel pump modules have a lower pressure limit than the recalled pumps.
Before the tank contacts the drive shaft, owners can hear a grinding or knocking noise from underneath the truck. That noise is the warning sign tied to this defect.
Who's affected?
Covers Silverado 3500 and Sierra 3500 pickup trucks across the 2016, 2017, and 2018 model years, all tied to the fuel tank assembly.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific pickup truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the front fuel tank overfills, pressure can make it expand into the moving driveshaft. That contact can wear a hole in the tank, leak fuel, and raise the risk of fire near an ignition source. A grinding or knocking noise is a warning sign. Stop and call the dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Chevrolet dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2016-2018 Silverado 3500 or Sierra 3500 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Chevrolet dealer to schedule the rear-tank fuel-pump module replacement and front-tank inspection that address the overfill and fuel-leak risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Chevrolet has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 19V088 when you call.
- Avoid driving if you smell fuel or see a fuel leak. Have the truck inspected before moving it again.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Chevrolet technician replaces the rear-tank fuel-pump module. The technician also inspects the front tank and replaces the front tank when the inspection shows it is needed. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Chevrolet's reimbursement plan covers eligible documented repairs paid before the recall notice. Bring repair paperwork and payment proof to the service desk when you ask about reimbursement.
