What's wrong?
The fuel rails on the 2015-2018 Audi A8, A7, A6, and Q7 are rigid lines in the fuel injection system. They hold fuel under pressure and feed it evenly to the engine's injectors, so the engine gets the fuel it needs while the system stays sealed.
On affected vehicles, the problem is at the welded end cap area of the fuel rails. Audi found that variations in the supplier's plastic welding process left some rails less able to hold up during real driving. Over time, fuel can leak from the end cap area, even though the amount of leaking fuel is described as low.
The warning sign is a fuel odor inside the vehicle. If you smell fuel in the cabin, treat that as a sign that the rail leak condition is present and have the vehicle checked by an Audi dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, an Audi technician replaces the left and right fuel rails covered by this recall. The fuel rails carry fuel to the engine injectors, so the repair focuses on removing the leak risk at both rails. Parts and labor are free of charge. Audi offers a reimbursement program under this recall. If you already paid out of pocket for a fuel rail leak repair tied to this recall, ask Audi customer service or the service desk how to submit your repair paperwork under that program.
