What's wrong?
The hydraulic brake lines on 2013-2020 Blue Bird Vision and Vision School Bus buses carry pressurized brake fluid to the wheel brakes. The transmission shifter cable links the driver's gear selector to the automatic transmission. Both parts need clear routing around the Ford 6.8L V10 engine so they stay away from heat and moving or fuel-carrying parts.
On affected buses, those lines or cables were not routed consistently. A brake line routed too close to the exhaust manifold is exposed to excessive heat, which breaks down the line and lets hydraulic brake fluid leak. The shifter cable also contacts the gasoline fuel supply line on some buses, which results in a fuel leak.
There is no warning sign before failure. Blue Bird reported no audible or visual alert before the brake fluid leak or fuel line contact creates the issue.
