2019 Heartland Fifth-Wheel Recall 18V852: Reflectors

Recall 18V852 covers 2019 Heartland Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, and Elk Ridge Express trailers for missing forward reflectors. Repair is free at Heartland dealers.

Heartland is recalling 847 2019 Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, and Elk Ridge Express fifth-wheel trailers because forward reflectors on one or both sides were not installed. Missing reflectors reduce the trailer's visibility to other drivers and increase crash risk; Heartland dealers will install the reflectors free of charge.

What's wrong?

The forward side reflectors on these 2019 Heartland Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, and Elk Ridge Express fifth-wheel trailers are small reflective markers mounted near the front sides of the camper. They do not make light themselves. They reflect light from other vehicles so the trailer's length and side position are easier to see in low light.

On affected trailers, the reflector on one side or on both sides was not installed during production. The trailer can still tow, but the missing reflector means the visibility equipment is incomplete. Heartland found units in its yard without the required reflector and corrected the units it still had.

There is no warning sign before failure. Owners can inspect the front sides of the trailer and see whether the reflector is missing, but there is no light, sound, or driving symptom that alerts you while towing.

Who's affected?

Covers five Heartland trailer lines from the 2019 model year, all tied to the same visibility component.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific trailer is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the required reflectors are missing, the trailer is less visible to other drivers, which increases the risk of a crash. Check the trailer exterior before travel and schedule the reflector installation soon. Repair is free at any franchised Heartland dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2019 Heartland Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, or Elk Ridge Express trailer is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Heartland dealer to schedule the free forward-reflector installation that restores the trailer's required visibility markers.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Heartland mailed one. If not, reference recall number 18V852 when you call.
  4. Avoid towing at night or in low visibility until the missing reflectors are installed.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Heartland technician checks the forward reflector locations and installs any missing reflectors on the trailer. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. If you already paid to have the missing reflector installed before the recall work, Heartland says it will reimburse the consumer. Keep the repair invoice or proof of payment and ask Heartland customer service how to submit it when you arrange the recall repair.

Recall 18V852 covers 847 2019 Heartland Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, and Elk Ridge Express fifth-wheel trailers with missing forward reflectors. Heartland dealers will install the missing reflectors for free so the trailers meet the reflector requirements in FMVSS 108.

What should I do if my 2019 Heartland Milestone, Elk Ridge, Sundance, Pioneer, or Elk Ridge Express is on this recall?
