Recall 18V835 affects 2,742 2017-2019 Ducati Supersport, Monster 821, and Monster 1200 motorcycles with loose shift knobs. Repair is free at franchised Ducati dealers.
Ducati is recalling 2,742 2017-2019 Supersport, Monster 821, and Monster 1200 motorcycles because the shift lever was assembled incorrectly and the shift knob can detach from the lever. If that happens, the rider can lose the ability to shift gears, which raises crash risk; Ducati dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The shift lever on 2017-2019 Ducati Supersport, Monster 821, and Monster 1200 motorcycles is the foot-operated lever the rider uses to select gears. The knob at the end gives the rider's boot a solid contact point. Each shift depends on that knob staying fixed to the lever.
On affected motorcycles, the knob was not secured tightly enough during assembly. The fit between the knob and lever was too loose, or the pin was not peened correctly. Peening means deforming the end of the pin so it locks the parts together. When that joint is weak, the pin can move, the knob can rotate or loosen while riding, and the rider can lose the ability to change gears.
Before failure, the warning sign is rotation of the shift knob at the end of the gear lever. If you feel the knob turning under your boot, the shift lever assembly has begun to loosen.

What's the safety risk?
A detached shift knob can leave the rider unable to shift gears, which increases crash risk. If the knob rotates at the end of the gear lever, stop riding until a Ducati dealer checks the lever. Schedule the inspection soon. Repair is free at any franchised Ducati dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2019 Ducati Supersport, Monster 821, or Monster 1200 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ducati dealer to schedule the free shift-lever inspection and shift-knob replacement that fixes the detaching knob.
- Bring the owner letter if you have it, and reference recall number 18V835 when you call.
- Avoid riding if the shift knob is loose or missing; ask the Ducati dealer about transport before moving the motorcycle.
- Call Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446 with questions about the recall or repair timing.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ducati technician checks the gear lever shift knob for proper tightness. If the knob is loose or has been incorrectly assembled, the technician replaces it as needed. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Ducati has a general reimbursement plan on file for owners who paid out of pocket for this same repair before the recall work was completed. Bring repair paperwork and payment documentation to the Ducati service desk, or contact Ducati customer service to start the reimbursement review.

What should I do if my 2017-2019 Ducati Supersport, Monster 821, or Monster 1200 is on this recall?
