Recall 18V769 affects 21,063 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi vehicles for a fuel tank cracking defect. Repair will be free at any franchised Suzuki dealer once available.
Suzuki is recalling 21,063 2010-2013 Kizashi sedans because dust can restrict the carbon-canister vent line, creating excessive negative pressure in the fuel tank and cracking it. A cracked tank can leak fuel and increase fire risk; the Suzuki dealer repair will be free once the remedy is available.

What's wrong?
The fuel vapor system on the 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi uses a carbon canister to capture fuel vapors instead of letting them vent to the air. A vent line feeds fresh air to that canister so the system can breathe as fuel level and tank pressure change during normal driving.
On affected Kizashi vehicles, dust enters that vent line and restricts airflow. When the canister cannot get enough fresh air, the fuel tank develops excessive negative pressure. That pressure pulls against the tank walls until the fuel tank cracks.
Once the tank is cracked, a pressure sensor detects fuel vapor leakage. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), often seen as the check engine light, turns on to tell the driver the vehicle needs service. That light is the warning sign owners are given after the tank has already cracked.
Who's affected?
The scope spans four model years, with the same fuel system component listed for each year.
| 2013 Suzuki Kizashi | fuel system |
|---|---|
| 2011 Suzuki Kizashi | fuel system |
| 2012 Suzuki Kizashi | fuel system |
| 2010 Suzuki Kizashi | fuel system |
| Units affected | 21,063 |
The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific sedan is included.
What's the safety risk?
A cracked fuel tank can leak fuel and increase the risk of a fire. If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp comes on or you smell fuel, stop driving and call a Suzuki dealer for guidance. Repair will be free at any franchised Suzuki dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi is included in this recall.
- Wait for Suzuki's second owner notice before scheduling the final dealer repair.
- Call Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934 with questions, and reference recall number 18V769.
- Ask a franchised Suzuki dealer what interim guidance applies until the free fuel-system repair opens.
- Watch for fuel smell or visible leaking, and keep the vehicle away from open flames or heat sources if either appears.
What happens at the repair
Because the final repair is not yet available, Suzuki first sent owners an initial notice. When parts are available, Suzuki will mail another notice. At the dealer, a Suzuki technician will install a cover over the opening near the suction pipe inlet, relocate the suction filter, and replace the fuel cap and fuel tank with improved parts. The final dealer repair will be free once it opens.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 18V769?
Recall 18V769 covers 21,063 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi vehicles with a fuel-system vent issue. Dust can restrict airflow to the carbon canister, create excessive negative pressure in the fuel tank, and lead to tank cracking. Suzuki's remedy replaces and relocates affected fuel-system parts for free once available.
What should I do if my 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific Kizashi is included in recall 18V769. If it is, contact a franchised Suzuki service provider or Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Ask whether parts are available for your VIN and reference recall number 18V769 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to perform the recall repair at no cost. For recall 18V769, Suzuki dealers install a cover near the suction pipe inlet, relocate the suction filter, and replace the fuel cap and fuel tank with improved parts once the remedy opens.
What is the safety risk?
The safety risk is fuel leakage and fire risk. If dust blocks the vent line, the fuel tank can develop excessive negative pressure and crack. A cracked fuel tank can leak fuel, which increases the risk of a fire.
What if I bought my Suzuki Kizashi used?
The recall still follows the VIN, not the first owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether your used Kizashi is included in recall 18V769. If it is, call a franchised Suzuki service provider or Suzuki customer service and ask about the free recall remedy.
