Recall 18V722 covers 872 2010-2019 Starcraft Bus buses for seatback foam that fails crash protection standards. Free dealer repair once available.
Starcraft Bus is recalling 872 2010-2019 Quest, Prodigy, Senator Ii, Quest Xl, and Mfsab buses because foam in the lower seat-back knee impact area can fail to absorb enough crash energy. That defect increases the risk of injury in a crash, and the dealer repair will be free once Starcraft Bus makes the remedy available.

What's wrong?
The affected 2010-2019 Starcraft Bus Quest, Prodigy, Senator Ii, Quest Xl, and Mfsab buses use school bus seats with a foam pad in the lower seatback. That lower area is the knee impact zone, the place a passenger's knees contact during a crash. The foam is supposed to absorb impact energy so the seat helps protect the passenger behind it.
On the recalled seats, the foam in that lower seatback area is too thin for the seat design. The issue applies to 30-inch standard unbelted school bus seats and 30-inch school bus seats with lap belts only. Because the narrower seat is more rigid side to side, the knee impact area does not absorb enough force in a crash.
There is no warning sign before failure. Owners and operators will not hear, see, or feel a warning that the seat foam does not meet the required crash protection standard.
Who's affected?
Quest coverage runs from 2010 through 2019, while Prodigy coverage starts in 2013 and the remaining listed models are 2019 buses.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the lower seatback foam does not absorb enough impact energy during a crash, the risk of injury increases. There is no audible or visual warning before this protection issue becomes relevant. Confirm whether your VIN is included, and follow dealer instructions. Repair will be free at any franchised Starcraft Bus dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2010-2019 Starcraft Bus Quest, Prodigy, Senator Ii, Quest Xl, or Mfsab is included in this recall.
- Wait for Starcraft Bus repair instructions before scheduling dealer work.
- Call Starcraft Bus customer service at 1-574-642-3112 with questions and reference recall number 18V722.
- Ask the dealer about the free EPS foam insert repair that helps the lower seatback absorb crash impact.
- Keep the recall notice with the bus records and bring it to the dealer appointment.
What happens at the repair
Once the dealer repair is available, a Starcraft Bus technician will add an additional piece of expanded polystyrene foam in the lower seatback area. That added foam is meant to improve impact absorption at the knee area of the affected school bus seats. Parts and labor are covered under the recall. Forest River has a general reimbursement plan on file, so owners who paid out of pocket for this seatback foam repair before the recall notice should ask customer service how to submit documented expenses.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 18V722?
Recall 18V722 covers 872 2010-2019 Starcraft Bus Quest, Prodigy, Senator Ii, Quest Xl, and Mfsab buses with certain school bus seats. The lower seatback foam does not absorb enough impact energy in a crash, increasing injury risk. Dealers add EPS foam to the lower seatback area for free.
What should I do if my 2010-2019 Starcraft Bus Quest, Prodigy, Senator Ii, Quest Xl, or Mfsab is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific bus is included in recall 18V722. If it is, contact a franchised Starcraft Bus dealer and ask about the lower seatback foam repair. Reference recall number 18V722 and Starcraft Bus recall number 05-0886 when you call.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. For recall 18V722, dealers insert an additional piece of EPS foam into the lower seatback area free of charge.
What is the safety risk?
The risk is higher injury in a crash. The affected school bus seats have lower seatback foam that does not absorb enough impact energy, so the seatback area provides less crash protection than the federal school bus seating standard requires.
What if I bought this bus used?
The free recall repair still applies. Recall eligibility follows the VIN, not the current owner. Check your VIN to confirm whether the bus is included, then call a franchised Starcraft Bus dealer with recall number 18V722 and Starcraft Bus recall number 05-0886.
