What's wrong?
The Solera Smart Arm Awning on the 2018 Riverside Dream is the powered shade assembly mounted along the side of the recreational trailer. Its control module and wiring harness receive the owner's switch command, then send power to extend or retract the awning when the trailer is parked and set up for use.
On this trailer, water can enter the Smart Arm awning control module wiring harness. Water in that electrical connection can create a short circuit, which sends power through the awning system without an owner command. If that happens while the trailer is moving, the awning can deploy from the side of the trailer instead of staying secured.
There is no warning sign before failure. An owner is not expected to hear a special noise, see a warning light, or feel a change in how the trailer tows before the awning activates.
