Recall 18V601 covers 215,124 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, QX60, Maxima, and Pathfinder vehicles for ABS actuator leaks. Park outside if the ABS lamp stays on. Free dealer repair.
A brake fluid leak onto the ABS actuator circuit board can cause an electrical short and raise the risk of fire. If the ABS warning lamp stays on after engine startup, park outside and away from other vehicles or structures, then contact the dealer before moving the vehicle. Repair is free at any franchised Nissan dealer.
Nissan is recalling 215,124 2015-2018 Murano, QX60, Maxima, and Pathfinder vehicles because the ABS actuator pump can leak brake fluid onto an internal circuit board. That leak can cause an electrical short and increase fire risk; park outside and away from structures until a Nissan dealer completes the free repair.

What's wrong?
The anti-lock brake actuator is the hydraulic and electronic control unit that helps the brakes keep traction during hard stops. On 2015-2018 Murano, QX60, Maxima, and Pathfinder vehicles, that unit uses a pump, seals, brake fluid passages, and a circuit board to manage brake pressure when the system detects wheel slip.
On affected vehicles, brake fluid can leak past an internal oil seal inside the actuator pump and reach the circuit board. Nissan traced the problem to an oil seal made out of specification because die temperature changed the seal hardness. With too little lubrication around the seal, the seal wears early and lets fluid enter a part of the actuator that must stay dry.
If this happens, the ABS warning lamp stays lit on the instrument panel. That warning light is the sign to take the problem seriously and arrange the recall repair.

What's the safety risk?
A brake fluid leak onto the ABS actuator circuit board can cause an electrical short and raise the risk of fire. If the ABS warning lamp stays on after engine startup, park outside and away from other vehicles or structures, then contact the dealer before moving the vehicle. Repair is free at any franchised Nissan dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, QX60, Maxima, or Pathfinder is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Nissan dealer to schedule the free ABS actuator inspection and replacement if needed, which addresses the brake-fluid leak on the internal circuit board.
- Park the vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures if the ABS warning lamp stays on for more than 10 seconds after engine startup.
- Do not drive the vehicle if that ABS warning lamp condition appears; ask the dealer about the safest way to move it for service.
- Bring the recall notice if Nissan mailed one. If not, reference recall number 18V601 when you call.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Nissan technician checks the serial number on the ABS actuator and replaces the actuator if it is in the affected group. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. If the ABS warning lamp stays on for more than 10 seconds after engine startup, park outdoors, away from vehicles and structures. Do not drive the vehicle. If you've already paid for this repair before the recall notice and the vehicle was no longer under warranty, ask Nissan customer service or the dealer how to submit claim documentation.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 18V601?
Recall 18V601 covers 215,124 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, QX60, Maxima, and Pathfinder vehicles with ABS actuator pumps that can leak brake fluid onto an internal circuit board. That leak can cause an electrical short and increase fire risk. Nissan dealers will inspect the ABS actuator serial number and replace it as needed for free.
What should I do if my 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, QX60, Maxima, or Pathfinder is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall 18V601. If it is, contact a franchised Nissan dealer to schedule the ABS actuator inspection. Reference recall number 18V601 when you call. If the ABS warning lamp stays on for more than 10 seconds after startup, park outside and away from structures.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the defect at no cost. Nissan dealers will inspect the ABS actuator serial number and replace the actuator as needed free of charge.
What warning signs should I watch for?
Watch the ABS warning lamp after engine startup. If it remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds, brake fluid has leaked onto the circuit board. Park the vehicle outdoors, keep it away from other vehicles or structures, and contact a Nissan dealer before moving it.
Is it safe to drive with this ABS warning light?
No, not when the ABS warning lamp stays on for more than 10 seconds after engine startup. Nissan's remedy instructions say that warning means brake fluid has leaked onto the circuit board. Park outside and away from structures, then ask the dealer about the safest way to get the vehicle in for repair.
