Recall 18V581 covers 4,500 2017-2019 Freightliner 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, and 4900 trucks for fuel-line burst risk. Free dealer repair.
Freightliner is recalling 4,500 2017-2019 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, and 4900 trucks with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines because a restricted fuel pump cooling circuit screen can make the fuel line burst on long downhill grades. A burst line can spill fuel onto the road and stall the engine without warning; the Freightliner dealer repair will be free once available.

What's wrong?
The affected 2017-2019 Freightliner 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, and 4900 trucks use Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines with nylon fuel lines at the fuel pump. Those lines carry diesel fuel through the engine's fuel system. A fuel pump cooling circuit screen is supposed to let fuel flow through the pump area while keeping debris out, so the pump and nearby fuel line stay within their designed operating range.
On these trucks, the cooling circuit screen can become restricted in certain driving conditions, including a long downhill grade. When that screen is restricted, heat and pressure at the pump area can build beyond what the nylon fuel line is designed to handle. The line can burst at or near the fuel pump, then leak diesel fuel and stop normal engine fueling.
The warning sign is direct: the engine stops responding when the operator presses the accelerator. If the nylon fuel line has burst, the truck leaks fuel and the engine will not run normally.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the nylon fuel line bursts, fuel can spill onto the road and create a hazard for other drivers. The engine can stall without warning, fail to restart, and increase the risk of a crash. If the engine stops responding to the accelerator, pull over safely and call the dealer. Repair will be free at any franchised Freightliner dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2019 Freightliner 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, or 4900 is included in this recall.
- Wait for Freightliner's owner notice before scheduling the dealer repair if your VIN shows the remedy is not open yet.
- Contact a franchised Freightliner dealer when the remedy is open to schedule the free nylon-to-steel fuel-line replacement that fixes the burst-prone fuel line.
- Reference recall number 18V581 when you call, and bring the owner notice if Freightliner mailed one.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Stop safely if the engine stalls or you smell fuel.
What happens at the repair
Once the repair is available, a Freightliner technician will replace the affected nylon fuel line with a steel fuel line. The final dealer repair will be free, including parts and labor. Daimler Trucks North America's reimbursement plan on file covers documented out of pocket repairs tied to this fuel line before the recall repair. Keep repair orders and payment records, and ask the service desk how to submit them through the manufacturer's reimbursement process.

Recall 18V581 covers 4,500 2017-2019 Freightliner 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, and 4900 trucks with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines. A restricted fuel pump cooling circuit screen can lead to a burst fuel line. Dealers will replace the nylon fuel line with a steel fuel line for free.
What should I do if my 2017-2019 Freightliner 122SD, Cascadia, Coronado, or 4900 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 18V581. If it is, contact a franchised Freightliner dealer and reference recall FL789 when you call. Ask the dealer whether the steel fuel line replacement is available for your VIN. The repair is free.
Is the recall repair free?
