What's wrong?
The wheelchair lift on the 2012-2018 Micro Bird T-Series School Bus, G5 School Bus, and Mb Ii School Bus raises and lowers a wheelchair platform between the ground and the bus floor. A positioning input cam is part of that lift system. Its job is to tell the lift where the platform is so the platform stops level with the vehicle floor.
On the affected Ricon S Series and K Series Titanium lifts, that cam can fail while the lift is in use. When the lift loses the correct position input, the platform can travel higher than the bus floor instead of stopping at the proper height. That creates an uneven transfer point for a wheelchair user and means the lift system does not meet the platform lift safety standard cited in recall 18V574.
There is no warning sign before failure. A driver, attendant, or passenger will not have a reliable symptom that shows the cam is about to fail before the lift is used.

What's the safety risk?
If the lift platform stops above the vehicle floor, a wheelchair user can tip inward toward the vehicle while exiting, increasing the risk of injury. Use the lift only after confirming the platform is level with the vehicle floor, and stop if it does not settle correctly. Repair is free at any franchised Micro Bird dealer.

What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Micro Bird technician replaces the wheelchair lift's injection molded positioning input cam with a new machined aluminum cam. The work addresses the cam that controls lift positioning, so the platform stops at the correct floor height during use. Parts and labor are covered under the recall because the remedy is available. Ask the service desk to confirm the lift model and recall 18V574 when you schedule the appointment.
