What's wrong?
The generator exhaust pipe on a 2018 Jayco Travel Trailer Octane is the metal outlet that carries engine exhaust from the optional generator to the outside of the trailer. When the generator runs, its engine burns fuel and produces exhaust. The pipe's job is to keep that exhaust moving away from the living space instead of letting it collect under or inside the trailer.
On affected Octane travel trailers, that exhaust pipe was not installed during production. Jayco traced the problem to a supplier shortage that was not captured on its internal shortage report, so trailers were released for shipment even though the generator exhaust path was incomplete. With the pipe missing, generator exhaust can enter the trailer when the generator is running.
There is no warning sign before failure. Owners should treat a missing exhaust pipe as a defect that is present whenever the generator is used, not as a part that wears out over time.

What's the safety risk?
Exhaust entering the trailer exposes occupants to fumes and increases the risk of injury. Until the generator exhaust pipe is inspected, keep occupants out of the trailer while the generator is running and contact a dealer for repair timing. Repair will be free at any franchised Jayco Travel Trailer dealer once available.
