Recall 18V391 affects 1,700 2012-2018 Lamborghini Aventador vehicles because the engine can stall. Software repair is free at any franchised Lamborghini dealer.
Lamborghini is recalling 1,700 2012-2018 Aventador Coupe and Roadster vehicles because the engine can stall when the accelerator pedal is released below 2,000 rpm during an automatic downshift. An unexpected stall increases crash risk, and Lamborghini dealers will complete the recall repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The engine software in 2012-2018 Lamborghini Aventador vehicles controls how the engine manages fuel and air as driving conditions change. Part of that job is estimating fuel flow from the purge valves, which route fuel vapors into the engine to be burned instead of vented. The software also has to keep the engine running smoothly when the driver lifts off the accelerator and the automatic transmission downshifts.
On affected Aventadors, the software does not correctly estimate that purge-valve fuel flow in the affected driving condition. When the accelerator pedal is released at low rpm while the transmission is downshifting, the engine can switch off. If that happens, power assist for steering and the brake booster is compromised, though the engine can be restarted after the stall.
There is no warning sign before failure. Lamborghini reported no particular driver perception just before the stall, so the first thing an owner notices is the engine shutting off.

At the dealer, a Lamborghini technician installs updated engine software for the Aventador engine control system. The software update is free under the recall, and parts and labor are covered. If you already paid out of pocket for the same engine stall repair before the recall work, Lamborghini's standard reimbursement plan covers eligible documented expenses. Bring repair invoices and payment records to the service desk, or contact Lamborghini customer service at 1-866-681-6276 for claim instructions.
