Recall 18V337 covers 1,917 2017 Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover vehicles. Franchised Land Rover dealers update software free.
Land Rover is recalling 1,917 2017 Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover SUVs because the fuel gauge can show low fuel while the tank still has more fuel, and the software can shut off the engine after more driving. A stall can cut drive power or power brake assistance, which increases crash risk, and Land Rover dealers will update the software free of charge.

What's wrong?
The fuel level display on the 2017 Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover depends on signals from the Body Control Module. That module is an electronic controller that shares vehicle status information with other systems, including the fuel gauge and low-fuel warning light. The gauge should show the amount of fuel in the tank so the driver knows when to refuel.
In affected diesel vehicles, the Body Control Module microcontroller was configured incorrectly. As it moves from its startup sequence into sleep and wake states, it sends the fuel gauge an incorrect low-fuel signal. The gauge then shows low fuel and turns on the warning light even when the tank has more fuel. After about 17 more miles, the engine management software can cut off the engine.
The warning sign is a low fuel reading with the low-fuel warning light on. The vehicle can restart, drive briefly, and shut off again until it is fully powered down and left for several minutes.

What's the safety risk?
If the engine shuts off, it can cause loss of power brake assistance. An engine stall also means loss of drive power. Both conditions increase crash risk. A low fuel reading and illuminated low fuel warning light are the warning signs. Schedule the software update soon. Repair is free at any franchised Land Rover dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017 Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport, or Range Rover is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Land Rover dealer to schedule the free software update that corrects the fuel-level reading and engine-shutoff risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Land Rover mailed one. If not, reference recall number 18V337 when you call.
- Avoid relying only on the fuel gauge until the update is complete.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete. Leave extra following distance and move out of traffic if the engine loses power.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Land Rover technician installs an engine management software update that corrects the fuel level reading. The update is free under the recall, with parts and labor covered. If you already paid for a related fuel gauge or software repair before the recall notice, Land Rover's reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Bring your repair paperwork to the service desk, or ask Land Rover customer service how to submit the claim.
