What's wrong?
The front seat belt anchor D-ring bolt is the fastener that holds the upper shoulder-belt guide to the cab structure on affected 2018-2019 Ic Bus vehicles, including Hc, Rh, Mv, Lonestar, Hv, Durastar, Workstar, Prostar, Lt, and Transtar models. In normal use, that anchor keeps the shoulder belt positioned so the belt can restrain the driver or passenger during a crash.
The recalled bolts were supplied with a material problem called hydrogen embrittlement, which means hydrogen in the metal makes the bolt brittle instead of properly tough. The supplier quality check did not fully catch that condition. Under crash loading, the front driver or passenger D-ring bolt is at risk of breaking, leaving the belt anchor unable to perform as designed.
There is no warning sign before failure. The bolt can look normal during everyday driving, and the problem is tied to how the bolt was made, not to a sound, warning light, or change in belt feel.
