What's wrong?
The 2018 Ducati Panigale V4 fuel tank uses an internal breathing valve to let fuel fill the tank properly as the tank is filled and ridden. A plug in that valve is sealed by an O-ring, a small rubber ring that keeps fuel from escaping around the outside of the plug. That seal has to sit flat and unpinched for the tank to stay sealed.
On affected motorcycles, the O-ring was damaged or pinched during plug installation. Grease around the O-ring kept the supplier's leak test from finding the problem, and the low fuel level at the factory also hid it. Once the O-ring seal fails, fuel can leak from the back side of the tank near the internal breather valve.
There is no warning sign before failure. A rider is only likely to know after fuel is already leaking from the tank area.

What's the safety risk?
A fuel leak near an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. Ducati reports no warning sign to alert the rider before this happens, so schedule the repair soon and treat any fuel smell or visible leakage as a reason to stop riding and call the dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Ducati dealer.
