What's wrong?
The right hand stalk shifter in these 2017-2018 Peterbilt 567, 579, T680, and T880 trucks lets the driver choose drive, neutral, or reverse on automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage transmissions. The cab controller then sends that choice to the instrument display, so the driver sees the selected gear before trying to move the truck.
On affected trucks, the transmission software does not report the stalk position correctly to the cab controller. The display can show "N" for neutral even when the stalk is set to "D" for drive or "R" for reverse. When that happens, the truck does not move because the displayed gear and the selected gear do not match the software logic.
There is no warning sign before failure. The problem shows up when the driver selects drive or reverse and the display still reads neutral, leaving the truck unable to move from that command.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
A truck that does not move when the driver expects it to move creates a crash risk. If your VIN is included, drive cautiously until the transmission software update is completed and call a Peterbilt dealer for repair scheduling. Repair will be free at any franchised Peterbilt dealer once available.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017-2018 Peterbilt 567, 579, T680, or T880 truck is included in this recall.
- Wait for Peterbilt or PACCAR to confirm the repair is open for your VIN before scheduling service.
- Contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer for the free transmission software update that fixes the incorrect gear display.
- Reference recall number 18V092 and PACCAR recall 118-A when you call the dealer.
- Bring the owner notice mailed on March 9, 2018, if you have it. If not, ask the dealer to look up the recall by VIN.
- Use extra caution until the repair is complete if the gear display does not match the shifter position.
What happens at the repair
The final dealer repair is a transmission software update for trucks with the automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage transmission and right hand stalk shifter. Until Peterbilt confirms the repair for your VIN, do not assume the final repair can be scheduled. Once available, a Peterbilt technician installs the transmission software update at no charge. The update is meant to correct the gear display logic so the selected gear is shown correctly.
