What's wrong?
On 2013-2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and Outlander vehicles, the rear brake caliper also houses part of the parking brake. The caliper presses the rear brake pads against the rotor when you brake, and the built-in parking brake mechanism holds the vehicle when the parking brake lever is set. An automatic adjuster keeps the parking brake travel in the right range as the pads wear.
On affected vehicles, water can get past the rear brake caliper boot and reach the parking brake actuator shaft. That shaft was not protected well enough against rust, so corrosion can make it bind.
