What's wrong?
The affected 2015-2018 Ducati motorcycles use a Brembo front brake master cylinder, the hand-control hydraulic pump for the front brake. When you squeeze the brake lever, the master cylinder pushes brake fluid through the hydraulic system so the front caliper clamps the brake rotor. That part has to hold pressure every time the rider brakes.
On these motorcycles, the piston inside the master cylinder is the weak point. The recalled piston is made from PPS plastic, while the replacement design uses machined aluminum. Ducati traced the defect to the structure of the piston material and small voids from the injection process. Those conditions create cracks in the piston, and a cracked piston leads to front brake master cylinder failure.
There is no reliable warning sign before failure. A significant loss of front brake effectiveness is the warning Ducati identified, so any sudden change in front brake response needs immediate attention.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific motorcycle is included.
What's the safety risk?
Front brake master cylinder failure can remove front braking ability and increase the risk of a crash. The failure can happen with no warning, so treat any sudden loss of brake effectiveness as a reason to stop riding and call a dealer. Repair is free at any franchised Ducati dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2015-2018 Ducati 1299, Monster 1200, Multistrada, Panigale R, Scrambler 800 Cafe Racer, or Xdiavel S is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Ducati dealer to schedule the free front brake master cylinder piston replacement that addresses loss of front braking ability.
- Bring the recall notice if Ducati mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V812 when you call.
- Ride cautiously until the repair. Avoid hard braking and leave extra following distance.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Ducati technician replaces the front brake master cylinder piston covered by the recall. The work addresses the Brembo front brake master cylinder described in the filing, and the replacement parts and labor are free under the recall. If you already paid out of pocket for this same front brake master cylinder repair before the recall work, Ducati's general reimbursement plan covers documented expenses that qualify. Bring your repair paperwork and receipts to the service desk or contact Ducati customer service for claim instructions.
