Do not drive this B-Series Truck, even for short trips, until the driver's frontal air bag inflator has been replaced. Repair is free at any franchised Mazda dealer.

What's wrong?
The driver side frontal air bag inflator in the 2004-2006 Mazda B-Series Truck is the metal gas generator inside the steering-wheel air bag. In a crash, the inflator is supposed to build pressure in a controlled way so the air bag fills between the driver and the wheel.
On affected trucks, the Takata driver inflator uses non-desiccated phased-stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant. After several years of exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and temperature cycling, that propellant can degrade. When the air bag deploys, excessive internal pressure can rupture the inflator instead of sending gas cleanly into the air bag. Mazda's remedy replaces it with an inflator from a different supplier that is free from that propellant.
There is no warning sign before failure. The defect is hidden inside the inflator and shows up only during air bag deployment.

What's the safety risk?
Do not drive this B-Series Truck, even for short trips, until the driver's frontal air bag inflator has been replaced. In a crash that deploys the air bag, the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into occupants, causing serious injury or death. Ask Mazda about towing if the truck must move. Repair is free at any franchised Mazda dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2004-2006 Mazda B-Series Truck is included in this recall.
- Do not drive the truck until the driver's frontal air bag inflator repair is complete.
- Arrange a tow if the truck has to be moved to the dealer; do not drive it there yourself.
- Contact a franchised Mazda dealer to schedule the free driver's frontal air bag inflator replacement that addresses the inflator rupture risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Mazda mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V807 and Mazda recall 1917L when you call.
- Tell the dealer if the truck received an inflator under recall 16V-048; those trucks still need the alternate inflator installed.
What happens at the repair
Do not drive the truck until the recall repair is complete. At the dealer, a Mazda technician replaces the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator. The replacement parts and labor are free under recall 17V807. If the truck received a replacement inflator under the earlier campaign, it still needs to return to a Mazda dealer for the alternate inflator. Mazda has a general reimbursement plan on file. If you already paid for a related inflator repair, ask Mazda customer service or the service desk what documentation is needed for a claim.

Frequently asked questions
What is recall 17V807?
Recall 17V807 covers 17,576 2004-2006 Mazda B-Series Truck vehicles with a driver's frontal air bag inflator that can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin. Do not drive the truck until a Mazda dealer replaces the inflator for free.
What should I do if my 2004-2006 Mazda B-Series Truck is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 17V807. If it is, do not drive it. Call a franchised Mazda dealer or Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 and ask how to arrange the free driver's air bag inflator replacement.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Federal recall law requires the manufacturer to repair the safety defect at no cost, and Mazda's remedy states that dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator free of charge.
What does 'do not drive' mean for this Mazda recall?
Do not drive the truck until the repair is complete. The risk is tied to a crash that deploys the driver's frontal air bag, where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments toward occupants. Ask the Mazda dealer about moving the vehicle without driving it.
What if I bought my Mazda B-Series Truck used?
The free repair still applies. Recall eligibility follows the VIN, not the current owner or where the truck was purchased. Check your VIN, then reference recall 17V807 when you call a Mazda dealer for the driver's air bag inflator replacement.
