What's wrong?
The fuel filler cap on the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR seals the opening at the top of the fuel tank. Its seal presses against the fuel filler neck, the metal opening where fuel enters the tank, so rainwater and wash water stay out while fuel stays contained.
On affected motorcycles, the filler neck has a smaller diameter tied to a design change for the 2017 model. If the cap seal swells, it leaves a gap between the seal and the filler neck. That gap lets water get into the tank. It also allows fuel to reach the drain path, which is why Honda found fuel dripping from the tank drain tube during testing.
There is no warning sign before failure. The rider is not given a clear symptom from the cap seal itself before water enters the tank or fuel reaches the drain tube.

What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2017 Honda CBR1000RR is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Honda dealer to schedule the free fuel tank cap replacement that seals the filler neck and keeps water out of the fuel tank.
- Ask the dealer to inspect for water in the fuel tank and replace affected fuel-system components if water entered.
- Bring the recall notice if Honda mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V681 when you call.
- Ride cautiously until the repair is complete, and pull over safely if the engine stalls.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Honda technician replaces the fuel tank cap and checks whether water entered the fuel tank through the cap seal area. If water is found in the tank, the affected fuel system components are replaced as part of the recall repair. Parts and labor are covered, so the dealer repair is free. Ask the service desk to note recall 17V681 and Honda recall number KH7 on the repair order.
