What's wrong?
The air disc brake caliper on a 2018 Silver Eagle VAST-20W converter dolly is the clamp that squeezes the brake pads against the rotor when the air brake system applies braking force. The caliper has to stay bolted tightly to its mounting flange so the braking force goes into the wheel end instead of moving the caliper itself.
On these dollies, the caliper bolts on axles with MPA/MTA suspensions and Meritor EX225 brakes were not tightened to the required torque. The problem came from the manual torque process, not from a bad caliper design. If a loose bolt backs out or the joint loses clamping force, the caliper can detach from the mounting flange and the brake at that wheel end loses proper support.
An operator can notice reduced braking performance and longer stopping distance. Treat that as the warning sign that the brake hardware is no longer holding as intended.

What's the safety risk?
