Recall 17V554 covers 2,975 2009-2018 Peterbilt 210, 220, K270, and K370 trucks for a loose sway bar link. Free repair at any franchised Peterbilt dealer.
Peterbilt is recalling 2,975 2009-2018 210, 220, K270, and K370 trucks because the front axle sway bar link can loosen at the frame rail and drop into the drag link's path. If that happens, steering can bind or respond improperly, increasing crash risk; Peterbilt dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?
The front axle sway bar link on these 2009-2018 LFNA trucks connects the front sway bar to the frame rail. The sway bar helps control side-to-side body roll, while the link and its bushing hold that bar in the correct position as the front axle moves. The steering drag link runs nearby and transfers steering input to the axle.
On affected trucks, the hardened flat washer at the upper sway bar link was missing or installed on the wrong side of the bushing during assembly. That washer belongs between the nut and the upper bushing, where its larger diameter keeps the link tube from sliding outward. Without it in the right place, the link can work loose over time, fall into the drag link path, and bind the steering system.
There is no warning sign before failure. The first sign can be steering interference, including a truck that cannot complete a right turn.

The year and model narrow the scope, but the VIN decides. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific truck is included.
What's the safety risk?
If the sway bar link detaches and falls into the drag link, steering can be affected and crash risk increases. No warning sign is listed for this problem, so schedule the recall inspection soon and stop using the truck if steering feels abnormal. Repair is free at any franchised Peterbilt dealer.
What should I do?
- Check your VIN to confirm your 2009-2018 Peterbilt 220, K370, 210, or K270 is included in this recall.
- Contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer to schedule the free front axle sway bar link washer inspection and repair, so the loose sway bar link stays out of the steering drag link.
- Bring the recall notice if Peterbilt mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V554 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and stop using the truck if the steering feels restricted or abnormal.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Peterbilt technician inspects the upper sway bar link attachment to confirm a hardened washer is installed between the bushing and the nut. If the washer is missing, the technician installs it. The recall repair is free, with parts and labor covered. Peterbilt has a general reimbursement plan on file for related out-of-pocket repairs paid before the recall notice. If you already paid for this repair, ask Peterbilt customer service or the dealer how to submit documentation.

Recall 17V554 covers 2,975 2009-2018 Peterbilt 210, 220, K270, and K370 trucks with a front axle sway bar link that can loosen and fall into the drag link path. That can bind the steering system and increase crash risk.
What should I do if my 2009-2018 Peterbilt 210, 220, K270, or K370 is on this recall?
Check your VIN to confirm your specific truck is included in recall 17V554. If it is, contact a franchised Peterbilt dealer and ask for the upper sway bar link attachment inspection. Reference recall 17V554 and the manufacturer recall numbers 817-D and 17KWE when you call.
