What's wrong?
The door hinge bolts on the 2018 Hino NV8J, NJ8J, and NE8J hold each cab door to its hinge and keep the door aligned with the cab opening. A properly tightened hinge lets the door swing, latch, and stay seated against the body while the truck is moving. The door latch does its job only when the door and hinge stay in the right position.
On affected trucks, the door gap was adjusted with a positioning wedge in place. The hinge bolts were tightened before that wedge was removed, so bolt tension dropped after the wedge came out. That left the upper hinge bolts under-tightened, which allows the door to shift on the hinge instead of staying clamped in place. If the door moves far enough, it can open while driving.
Owners can notice the door sagging or sitting out of line with the cab opening. The door can also feel hard to close because the loose hinge bolt condition changes the door position.

What's the safety risk?
Loose door hinges can make a door operate improperly and open while the vehicle is in use, increasing crash or injury risk. A sagging door or a door that is hard to close is a warning sign. Schedule the repair soon and limit use of that door until it is inspected. Repair is free at any franchised Hino dealer.
What should I do?

- Contact your nearest franchised Hino dealer to schedule the free door-hinge-bolt tightening that addresses the loose hinge bolts and door-opening risk.
- Bring the recall notice if Hino mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V493 when you call.
- Drive cautiously until the repair is complete, and make sure each door is fully latched before each trip.
What happens at the repair
At the dealer, a Hino technician checks the door hinge bolts and tightens any bolts that are not at the required torque. The recall repair is free, and parts and labor are covered. If you already paid for a related door hinge repair before the recall notice, Hino's standard reimbursement plan covers documented expenses. Bring your repair paperwork to the service desk, or contact Hino customer service if the dealer asks you to start the claim with Hino.
