2017 Acura Mdx Sport Hybrid Recall 17V424: Fuel Hoses

Recall 17V424 affects 193 2017 Acura Mdx Sport Hybrid vehicles for misrouted fuel hoses. Repair is free at any franchised Acura dealer.

Acura is recalling 193 2017 Mdx Sport Hybrid vehicles because the engine fuel feed hose and fuel purge hose were routed incorrectly during assembly. Contact with nearby components can damage the hoses and cause a fuel leak, which raises fire risk if an ignition source is present; Acura dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The engine fuel feed hose on the 2017 Acura Mdx Sport Hybrid carries gasoline from the fuel system to the engine. The fuel purge hose is part of the emissions system, routing fuel vapor from the storage system back toward the engine so it is burned instead of vented. Both hoses need the correct path and clearance around nearby engine parts.

On affected vehicles, the fuel feed hose and fuel purge hose were routed incorrectly during assembly. That puts the fuel feed hose close enough to rub against the breather pipe. Normal engine vibration then turns that contact into wear, damaging the hose wall instead of leaving it protected and clear of moving or vibrating parts.

There is no warning sign before failure. An owner is not expected to hear, feel, or see a clear symptom before the hose is damaged.

What's the safety risk?

Misrouted fuel feed or purge hoses can rub against nearby components, damage the hoses, and lead to a fuel leak. Fuel near an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. Have the dealer inspect the hose routing and replace any damaged or misrouted hoses. Repair is free at any franchised Acura dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2017 Acura Mdx Sport Hybrid is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Acura dealer to schedule the free fuel-hose inspection and replacement that corrects misrouted fuel feed and purge hoses.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Acura has mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V424 when you call.
  4. Watch for fuel smell or visible fuel. Stop driving and call the dealer if you notice either.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, an Acura technician inspects the routing of the engine fuel feed hose and the fuel purge hose. If either hose is routed incorrectly, the technician replaces the affected hose and installs it correctly. The recall repair is available now at an Acura dealer, and parts and labor are free under the recall. Acura has a general reimbursement plan on file. If you already paid for this same fuel hose routing repair before the recall, ask the service desk how to submit documentation for review.
