2015-2016 Byd K7 M Recall 17V386: Wiper Arm Defect

Recall 17V386 affects 13 2015-2016 Byd K7 M buses for cracked windshield wiper mounts. Repair is free at any franchised Byd dealer.

Byd is recalling 13 2015-2016 K7 M buses because the wiper arms can crack where they mount to the wiper motor, then bend or detach from the vehicle. Loss of wiper function can reduce the driver's visibility and increase crash risk; Byd dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

What's wrong?

The windshield wiper arms on the 2015-2016 Byd K7 M buses connect the wiper blades to the wiper motor. The motor turns each arm, and the arm sweeps the blade across the windshield so the driver can keep a clear view in rain or road spray. The arm has to stay firmly attached at its mount.

On affected buses, the mount casting on certain Sprague Devices wiper arms was made poorly. That casting is the metal section where the arm fastens to the motor. Cracks can form at that mounting point, then the arm can bend under normal wiper load or detach from the bus. The replacement arm uses a much thicker casting that is visible during inspection.

There is no warning sign before failure. A cracked mount can let go without a dashboard light or a clear change in wiper operation before the arm bends or comes off.

A matching year and model does not guarantee inclusion. Check your VIN to confirm whether your specific bus is included.

What's the safety risk?

If the wipers stop working, visibility drops and the risk of a crash increases, especially in rain or road spray. Slow down, pull over when it is safe, and schedule the inspection and mount replacement soon. Repair is free at any franchised Byd dealer.

What should I do?

  1. Check your VIN to confirm your 2015-2016 Byd K7 M is included in this recall.
  2. Contact a franchised Byd dealer to schedule the free windshield-wiper-mount inspection and replacement that fixes cracking wiper-arm mounts.
  3. Bring the recall notice if Byd mailed one. If not, reference recall number 17V386 when you call.
  4. Avoid driving in rain or low visibility until the wiper-mount repair is complete.

What happens at the repair

At the dealer, a Byd technician inspects the windshield wiper mounts where the wiper arms attach to the wiper motor. If the mounts show the recall condition, the technician replaces the mounts so the wiper arms stay attached and sweep correctly. The inspection and any needed replacement are free under the recall. Byd has a general reimbursement plan on file for documented prior repairs tied to this wiper mount issue. If you already paid for that repair before the recall work, ask Byd customer service or the dealer service desk how to submit the paperwork.
